Felbrigg Hall

Felbrigg Hall is located approximately 2 miles from Roughton Road station. Some of the stained glass windows you can see in the Great Hall once came from St Peter Mancroft church in Norwich, and some date from the 15th century. One of the most impressive rooms in the Hall is the Gothic library which contains approximately 5,000 books. The oldest book in the collection dates from 1509.

Felbrigg Hall’s beautiful walled garden is a must-see for any gardener; it provides fresh flowers for the hall, while the allotments provide fruit and vegetables for the local community. There is an Orangery which was built in 1704 with a glass roof, where you can find a collection of camelias. A wide range of exotic plants can be seen growing, including Desfontainia spinosa (which is native to Andean Chile and Peru), Crinodendron hookerianum (Chilean lantern tree), Leptospermum cunninghamii (Australian tea tree) and Dasylirion acrotrichum (from the deserts of Mexico).

The estate is a joy to explore and there are buggy-friendly surfaces on the main visitor routes. Get out and about on the 3.3km way-marked walk through the Great Wood and parkland, see the Ice House, wander along Felbrigg Lake and visit St Margaret’s Church, which is located approximately a quarter of a mile south-east of the Hall. The church is mainly late 14th-century and its chancel is a fine example of 15th-century carpentry.
