People arriving by train into Sheringham this week will receive free admission into the town’s museum this weekend by showing their rail ticket.

With the town set to welcome thousands of visitors for its annual 1940s Weekend, the Bittern Line Community Rail Partnership has once again teamed up with Sheringham Museum to enable anyone with a valid national rail ticket to Sheringham to enjoy free admission to the museum which will be open on both Saturday 19 and Sunday 20 September.

Bittern Line Chair, David Pearce said, “We are delighted to team up with Sheringham Museum enabling anyone arriving in the town by rail to enjoy free museum admission this weekend. “The museum is a jewel in the crown of the Norfolk Coast with a fascinating array of exhibits including agricultural and fishing artefacts, a spectacular fleet of boats, fisherman’s Ganseys, photographs, prehistoric fossils, an excellent art collection and items from both World Wars. We hope rail passengers will take up this unique opportunity to visit the museum free of charge.”
The Museum is inviting visitors to take a little step back into the Forties over the weekend; Lisa Little, Museum Curator and Manager said, “We are pleased to have partnered with the Bittern Line to offer free admission to rail passengers over the 1940s weekend again this year. We have a special 1940s film showing, along with numerous exhibits from the era as well as our Sheringham War Memorial display”.
The museum is just a short walk from the railway station and will be open on both Saturday 19 and Sunday 20 September from 10.30am to 4.30pm. To obtain free admission, rail passengers just need to show a valid rail ticket from anywhere on the national rail network where they have arrived in Sheringham between Monday 14 and Sunday 20 September. Both paper and electronic tickets will be valid.
Throughout the 1940s festival weekend, Bittern Line volunteers will be at Sheringham station, welcoming people to the town, with free maps, Bittern Line guides and printed timetables available.
