The Bittern Line Community Rail Partnership and Wherry Lines Community Rail Partnerships travelled to London Liverpool Street station as part of the national Community Rail Week to promote the lines which run from Norwich via the Broads National Park to the coast at Sheringham, Cromer, Great Yarmouth and Lowestoft.
The latest version of the Bittern Line Guide includes a map of the route and information on the towns, villages and major attractions to be found nearby as well as maps of Cromer, Sheringham and North Walsham and the railway timetable.
The Wherry Lines guide also includes the railway timetable and tourist information and, for the first time, includes both rail and local bus timetables enabling people taking the train to Lowestoft to also board buses at the towns railway station to popular coastal resorts such as Southwold, Hopton, Gorleston and Great Yarmouth, plus major tourist attractions including Pleasurewood Hills theme park and the Africa Alive wildlife reserve.

The Wherry Lines booklet also includes the timetable for the Wherry 100 Summer Bus which the partnership sponsors and operates from July 6 to August 31, connecting Great Yarmouth Railway station with the town centre, seafront, various attractions and Vauxhall Holiday Park.
Wherry Lines Chair, Chris Mitchell said; “We are delighted to launch our latest line guide and timetable and following our recent work with First Bus to enable two major bus routes to use the Lowestoft railway station bus interchange, are pleased to have included timetables for their 99 Southwold and X1 Great Yarmouth services, supporting greater connectivity between bus and rail.”
Bittern Line Chair, David Pearce added, “It’s some years now since both Bittern Line and Wherry Lines stepped in to print railway timetables after the industry ended production. “I’m pleased that these publications continue to prove hugely popular, enabling those unable to access online information to have both printed timetables and an array of information on the towns and attractions along our routes.”
Some 25,000 of each of the free guides are currently being distributed to a host of outlets across Norfolk & North Suffolk and are also available at Lowestoft Railway Station Shop & Tourist Information Office, Diss, Norwich and Great Yarmouth railway stations as well as the North Norfolk Railway Shop in Sheringham and Cromer Town Council Offices.
Copies can also be obtained by post by sending an A5 stamped addressed envelope (minimum stamp 91p) to: Lowestoft Station Shop & Tourist Information, Lowestoft Railway Station, NR32 2EG and stating preference for either the Bittern Line or Wherry Lines guide.
